Two members of UNSW’s Business School have been appointed to the Australian Accounting Standards Board’s (AASB) Academic Advisory Panel.

Roger Simnett and Baljit Sidhu are both on the panel, which has been launched this week.

Scientia Professor of Accouting, Roger Simnett, says “academic research is crucial to Australia making an impact on international standard setting and enhancing Australian financial reporting. This panel will provide academics with a forum through which they can inform accounting policy and  standard-setting through relevant and high quality research policy and ensure that it is evidence-based.”

Launching the Panel, AASB Chair Kris Peach says, "I am delighted that leading Academics from universities across Australia have agreed to be on the Panel. Together we can harness academic networks and ideas for our work within the AASB and the standard-setting community by conducting and publishing valuable research."

The AASB Academic Advisory Panel Chair Professor Tarca says, "I look forward to working with Panel members to reach out to the academic community to expand the interactions with standard setters. I believe this will facilitate more research in this important area, leading to high-quality independent evidence that can assist standard setters with their decision making."
