UNSW has collaborated with one of the most prestigious universities in Indonesia, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), hosting an "International Academic Exposure" study tour in August.

UGM, in Yogyakarta and Jakarta, is one of the most prestigious public universities in Indonesia, with the only business school in Indonesia to be awarded AACSB Accreditation – the largest and most recognised specialised business program accreditation of its kind worldwide.

The visit is expected to pave the way to an agreement between the business schools to enable UGM students to undertake a second Masters degree at UNSW in Australia.

Professor Chris Adam, Professor of Finance and Associate Dean for postgraduate programs at UNSW Business School, said the visit would broaden and deepen the relationship with Indonesia.

"Two-way engagement with Asia is a key part of UNSW Business School's strategy*. We have identified Indonesia as our priority country for 2015, to set in train links with Indonesia that will last well into the future. We look forward to working with UGM on this great opportunity."

Dr. Wakhid Slamet Ciptono,  Director of the Master of Management program, said the students found the tour very beneficial, offering them new and innovative learning experiences.

"We could benchmark from UNSW to do better in the near future at the Master of Management at UGM," Dr Ciptono said.

During the tour, coordinated by UNSW Business School and UNSW International, a delegation of 25 students and 4 staff from the UGM's Master of Management program visited UNSW's Kensington campus. They were given a detailed lecture on "The Australian Economy: Past, Present and Future" by Professor Chris Adam. Industry visits included the Sydney-based Indonesian trade organisations BKPM (Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board) and Eastern Cross Trading, where the students gained insights into investor development.

The UNSW Business School and UGM are currently brokering an agreement to articulate selected UGM Master of Management students to the UNSW Master of Commerce program.
