Trevor McDougall elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of NSW

We are proud to announce that Scientia Professor Trevor McDougall has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of NSW.

Professor McDougall was elected unanimously by committee members at the most recent general meeting of the Society.

In written correspondence to Prof McDougall, Society President Donald Hector said that they are aiming to re-establish the Royal Society of NSW as one of the major learned institutions in Australia, "carefully building a group of very accomplished leaders such as yourself. I hope you will find Fellowship of the Society both rewarding and enjoyable."

Prof McDougall's accolades and awards have been steadily building over the course of his career, and this year alone has also seen him collect an Australian Academy of Science Jaeger Medal for Research in Earth Sciences, his election as Vice President of the International Association for the Physical Sciences of the Oceans, and his selection as one of only 15 recipients of a prestigious Australian Laureate Fellowship.

Prof McDougall, a world-leading oceanographer who was appointed a Fellow of the Royal Society of London in 2012, was awarded the Royal Society of Tasmania Medal last year. 

His appointment as Fellow of the Royal Society of NSW has been described by Head of School Bruce Henry as a "wonderful honour", and we warmly congratulate Trevor for his latest achievement.
