UNSW has signed an MOU with one of the most prestigious universities in Indonesia, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) – establishing academic links between the two universities and promoting academic and cultural exchanges.

The partnership has already produced an "articulation agreement" that will enable students of UGM to do a second Masters degree at UNSW in Australia.

The MOU was signed in Yogyakarta today along with the agreement, between UNSW Business School and UGMs Faculty of Economics and Business, to admit selected UGM Master of Management students to the UNSW Master of Commerce program.

UNSW Business School Dean Professor Chris Styles said the agreement would be of great benefit to the two business schools, giving those students selected for the program an extremely valuable postgraduate education.

"Two-way engagement with Asia is a key part of UNSW Business School's strategy* and Indonesia is our priority country for 2015.  We look forward to working with UGM and welcoming their students to our campus."

Professor Laura Poole-Warren (PVC (Research Training) at UNSW) said: "I am delighted to be at UGM in Yogyakarta today to sign these agreements which provide a platform for increased engagement and additional future partnerships between UNSW Australia and UGM."

UGM, in Yogyakarta and Jakarta, is one of the most prestigious public universities in Indonesia, with the only business school in Indonesia to be awarded AACSB Accreditation – the largest and most recognised specialised business program accreditation of its kind worldwide.

Students who are learning Bahasa Indonesia through UNSW@ADFA (UNSW Canberra at the Australian Defence Force Academy) were also at UGM this week on a New Colombo Plan sponsored project.
