The Young Global Leaders (YGL) of the World Economic Forum met at a Roundtable in Davos on Friday. Coordinated by Professor Jane McAdam and four other YGLs, participants discussed how to shift the refugee conversation towards opportunity and away from risk.
Dr Khalid Koser, Executive Director of the Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund and Associate Fellow at Geneva Centre for Security Policies, led the dialogue. Dr Koser, who chairs the Forum's Global Agenda Council on Migration, explained that 'it is vital to create space for a sensible, rational discussion about the reality of refugee movement.'
A Young Global Leader since 2013, Kaldor Centre Director Professor Jane McAdam is heartened to see international refugee law and refugee issues featuring prominently in discussions in Davos. 'It is crucial that we see principled political leadership on this issue, with refugees' protection needs front and centre', she said.
