Last Wednesday 9 March, a group of School members attended Trinity Grammar School to participate in its Mathematics Discovery Evening.
A/Prof Chris Tisdell hosted a panel discussion for an audience of 50 high school students and their parents, featuring Dr Shane Keating, Dr Thomas Britz, PhD student Gordana Popovic, former Honours student Barton Lee, and Communications Officer Susannah Waters. They were joined by Trinity Grammar Maths teacher Shane Scott and The School for Excellence Ambassador Katrina Iannella.
A/Prof Tisdell fielded questions posed to panel members by the audience. A very interesting and engaging conversation ensued, canvassing and debating a wide range of issues from chaos theory, to big data, to climate change, to maths and theology.
Dr Frederick Osman, Trinity Grammar's Director of Enterprise and Vocational Education, said that he was delighted with how the event unfolded.
"I just want express my thanks again for your wonderful presentation and discussions at the Mathematics Discovery Evening. An engaging presentation that offered insights, important careers information on the many applications on the World of Mathematics for our students and parents", Dr Osman said.
