More than 190 of the UNSW Business School’s high achieving students were introduced to some of Australia’s leading investment banking and consulting firms at UNSW Australia this week.

Deutsche Bank, Macquarie, Deloitte, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Bain &Company, and L.E.K. Consulting were among the 27 investment banking and consulting companies who provided students with career advice and recruited potential future employees.

Professor Chris Styles, Dean of the UNSW Business School, said:

“A promise that we make to students is that we will not only provide an outstanding learning experience to prepare them for the workforce, but that they will benefit directly from the long relationships we have with our corporate partners.”

Morgan Stanley Australia Limited aimed to attract students into investment banking. Michelle Mellon, an HR Analyst, said: “UNSW Business School is one of our main schools that we look to attract students from, having the highest entry score, the school offers a diversity of thought.”

The quality of the Business School’s students was also important to the prospective employers. David Yang, a UNSW Business School alumnus and Manager at Bain & Company, said:  “We’re looking for all kinds of high achieving students with analytical minds, passion and drive. They don’t necessarily have to be academically gifted but stand out in other areas and could be involved in student societies and sports.”

The venue was buzzing with activity as students talked to prospective employers, who could answer questions about work culture and recruitment processes.

Jojo Yu, who is studying a Bachelor of Economics, said the evening was very beneficial and that she gained a deeper understanding of each company’s culture.

“It’s important for me to attend events such as these because it puts me in front of actual employees of the company who can share personal insights about working at each company.”
