A/Professor Daniel Chan has been announced as the Head of the Department of Pure Mathematics, for the next three year period.

A/Prof Chan has had a long relationship with the School, having completed his undergraduate degrees here: a BE and BA (Hons). He commenced as a lecturer at UNSW in 2002.

In the intervening years, A/Prof Chan pursued PhD studies at MIT, and had postdoctoral appointments at the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute Berkeley and at the University of Michigan.

Head of School Bruce Henry said that he looks forward “to working with Daniel as we progress through the UNSW 2025 Strategic Vision.”

He also thanked A/Professor Ian Doust for his outstanding service in the role of Head of Pure Mathematics over the past several years.
