The first ever TEDxUNSW event will be held on 13 August 2016 at NIDA.

The theme of the event is The Human Spectrum and Dr Joel Pearson, Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience at UNSW School of Psychology, has already been secured as a speaker for the event.

The Human Spectrum is about exploring the broad range of human beings and ideas in UNSW in order to uncover the shades within the spectrum that you wouldn’t normally be able to see. As a National Health and Medical Research Council fellow and Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience at UNSW, Dr Joel Pearson is well suited to present on the topic of The Human Spectrum. His work as a psychologist, neuroscientist and public intellectual working at the forefront of science, innovation and agile science is exactly what TEDxUNSW 2016 aims to showcase.

Joel has come a long way from his early career in filmmaking at COFA. He is now director of the Pearson Lab, a multidisciplinary agile Cognitive Neuroscience research group. He is also the founder and director of the UNSW Science of Innovation Lab, a world-first, hands-on research lab studying the Psychology and Neuroscience of entrepreneurship and innovation. So great is his passion for high-risk discovery science that Joel has developed a method called Agile Science, a practical guide to practicing and reporting scientific discoveries – the ‘Lean Startup’ for the world of science.
