Vice Chancellor Ian Jacobs helped to launch UNSW's exciting new statistics consulting service, Stats Central, on Wednesday night.

80 people gathered in Colombo Theatres to hear Stats Central staff members describe the initiative, with Mathematics and Statistics PhD student, and Stats Central Consultant, Gordana Popovic as event MC.

Speakers included Senior Consultant and Manager, Dr Nancy Briggs, and Co-Director of the unit Prof. David Warton (from the School of Mathematics and Statistics), along with Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research Infrastructure) A/Prof Grainne Moran, and Vice Chancellor Prof. Ian Jacobs.

Prof. Jacobs praised the Stats Central initiative, describing the impact of high quality statistical analysis on his own research. He said that quality statistical assistance has been crucial to the advancement of his ovarian cancer early detection research over the past three decades.

A drinks reception to celebrate the new unit was then enjoyed by attendees in Colombo foyer.
