Ashish Goyal, who recently had his thesis approved, has been selected for an AustMS Lift-off Fellowship.

AustMS says the Lift-off Fellowships are "prestigious fellowships which jump start the careers of young mathematicians by supporting them after the submission of their PhD thesis". Awarded on the basis of academic merit, Fellowships can be used to fund living expenses, to attend conferences, for travel, and to fund visits of collaborators.

Ashish is part of an elite group of people, with only three to six Fellowships being awarded each year since 2010.

Ashish undertook his PhD under the supervision of Professor John Murray, focusing on mathematical modeling of the hepatitis D virus. With his thesis completed, Ashish will soon leave for the U.S., where he will take up a position as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Los Alamos National Laboratory.

A very big congratulations to Ashish, and we wish him all the best for his new role in the U.S.!
