UNSW Business School students have accompanied Associate Dean (Digital and Innovation) Professor Nick Wailes when he rang the IDX (Indonesian Stock Exchange) bell to start the day’s trading in Indonesia’s capital city, Jakarta, as part of the Global Business Practicum.

Global Business Practicum students undertake a three and half week internship for a company overseas. Along with Jakarta there are programs in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Bangkok. The Global Business Practicum aims to provide UNSW Australia Business School students with practical and real life business experience, where they can gain industry skills to apply their knowledge and on an international platform.

While in Indonesia Professor Wailes chaired a UNSW Business School event BusinessThink Indonesia, which was hosted by the Australian Embassy in Jakarta. Students on the Global Business Practicum formed part of the audience, as they heard from a panel of Indonesia’s leading businesspeople, as well as new names from the digital technology sector, discuss how digital technology using mobile platforms is transforming the Indonesian economy.

A total of 17 UNSW Australia students undertook the Global Business Practicum in Indonesia. They were placed with five companies: aCommerce, Bizzy, CommBank, MullenLowe and IDX (Indonesian Stock Exchange). They were also joined by a student from Binus University (Indonesia).
