This year the DesignBUILD expo will be held in the brand new Convention Centre at Darling Harbour, Sydney. DesignBUILD is a trade show that supports Australia’s architecture, building, construction and design communities and brings them together with manufacturers, suppliers and service providers. But it also brings together our Interior Architecture students with these important industry players. Last year DesignBUILD launched a competition, called DesignBUILD RAW, in Melbourne and it’s here for the first time in Sydney. According to DesignBUILD RAW’s website, “DesignBUILD RAW is a collaborative project between leading architecture and design universities and DesignBUILD to showcase the talent of budding industry professionals directly in front of the industry’s best!”

Teams of second and third year UNSW Interior Architecture students come together and submitted their designs to build the "hub" of the trade show and also a theatre where industry lectures will take place. It's a chance for students to work on a real design brief and potentially see their ideas come to fruition in a working, interactive live space. It's an invaluable part of the course and gets students ready for employment when they graduate. On top of that, the winning students get noticed by the top tier industry participants and paying visitors whose sole purpose is to investigate the most advance offerings from companies at the top of their field.

This is the first time DesignBUILD Expo has held it's RAW competition in Sydney and 8 of our Interior Architecture students are winners...

After much deliberation, the team from DesignBUILD has chosen 2 winning teams:

The winning entry for the design of the theatre is:

Project: SIGMA

Team: Clare Mao, Jiayin Lin, Yan Ma, Jianying Wu

The winning entry for the design of the central hub is:

Project: FACETED

Team: Maia Guppy-Hall, Willis Mitchell, Jose Siccion, Amira Shamo

Congratulations to all the team members!
