Eric Kwok and students
PhD student Eric Kwok
has been commended for his outstanding efforts in leading the UNSW Mathematics Enrichment Club over the past couple of years.

Peter Brown, Deputy Director of First Year Maths, said that Eric has made an "important contribution to the School" for which he "has done an amazingly good job", while heading up the Club. Eric will soon move on from his role of coordinator.

The Mathematics Enrichment Club was initiated by Peter Brown in 2012. Since then, a few PhD students have helped to run the initiative. Eric took over during 2015 and 2016, and has also been filling in this year while a replacement is found.

The Mathematics Enrichment Club is held at Sydney Boys and Sydney Girls High Schools for 20 weeks per year. The classes run for 1.5 hours each week at both schools, with approximately 10-15 students in attendance.

The Club also distributes its materials to several other high schools to help support and supplement the schools' own maths clubs.

Besides problem solving, students are also encouraged to share their answers in front of the class, which helps to develop their communication skills and ability to communicate mathematics.
