Professor Michael Keane has been offered a prestigious joint appointment at the UNSW Business School and King’s College London (KCL) – the UK partner in the PLuS Alliance.

He is widely known for his seminal contributions in empirical microeconomics and econometrics. His methodological innovations are used extensively in a variety of applied fields including labour economics, health economics and marketing.

Based at both UNSW and KCL over the next two years Professor Keane will conduct innovative research and teaching featuring a mix of theory and practice spanning disciplinary boundaries to facilitate knowledge exchange.

“I am delighted at the appointment of Professor Michael Keane as part of the PLuS Alliance,” says Professor Chris Styles, Dean of UNSW Business School. “Professor Keane has made original, independent and pioneering contributions in statistical and choice modelling. His accomplishments are also recognised through multiple grants, and most recently the ARC Laureate Fellowship in 2012 which breaks new grounds in decision-making particularly in the context of retirement and health. He adds to the already substantial PLuS Alliance presence in innovation, research and education”.

Professor Keane’s policy-relevant applied microeconomic research has been published in top outlets in Economics and Marketing including Econometrica, Journal of Political Economy and Marketing Science. His accomplishments are also recognised through multiple NSF and ARC grants, Federation Fellowship, and most recently ARC Laureate Fellowship in 2012 which breaks new grounds in decision-making particularly in the context of retirement and health.

Professor Frans Berkhout, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy at King’s College London says “Michael is a leading economist combining theoretical work with a deep interest in a range of public policy issues. He brings significant expertise to Economics at King’s, including a commitment to develop economics research, especially at the postgraduate level.”

Professor Arghya Ghosh, Head of the School of Economics at the UNSW Business School, says “Michael Keane research into choice modelling and in methods for estimating complex, dynamic choice models that take into account the evolution of markets, consumer expectations and experience. Several independent sources have placed him among the world’s top economists in terms of research impact. I am delighted at this appointment.”
