The United Nations Human Rights Committee is reviewing Australia’s compliance with the ICCPR in October. Kingsford Legal Centre and Human Rights Law Centre coordinated the civil society report, which was submitted to the Human Rights Committee on 18 September.

The report raises concerns about Australia’s human rights record on issues including democratic rights and freedoms, equality and non-discrimination, rights of persons with disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander incarceration, rights of LGBTIQ persons, violence against women, and refugees. In the report, we have made numerous recommendations about how the government can better meet our international treaty obligations and ensure civil and political rights.
