Dr Khandis Blake, of the School of Biological, Earth and Biological Sciences, will represent UNSW at the NSW State Finals of FameLab, the world’s largest science communication competition.
FameLab aims to discover charismatic, up-and-coming scientists who inspire people to see the world from a new perspective – in just three minutes.
The ABC’s Natasha Mitchell will be MC for the evening at the Powerhouse Museum and introduce some of the country’s brightest minds to the stage as they tell their science stories in three minutes or less and explain why their work matters to the world.
Presentations will be judged by an esteemed panel of media professionals and public figures to see if they meet the FameLab’s 3Cs criteria: content, clarity and charisma.
The winner will be announced on the night and will then go on to compete in the national final – hosted by astrophysicist Dr Alan Duffy – at the Western Australian Maritime Museum in Fremantle on 10 May. The national winner then competes in the global final in the UK in June.
