Milan Design Week incorporates Salone del Mobile at Rho showgrounds and the Fuorisalone, a series of events and exhibitions spread across seven districts in Milan. As highly regarded as it is, Milan Design Week (MDW) is huge and can be overwhelming if you've never visited before. What most seasoned visitors to MDW know, is that with thousands of competing events to choose from, enjoying MDW is all about choosing the best things to see, knowing how to get to them easily and efficiently, navigating the crowds and venues.

For example the Salone del Mobile alone has over 2000 exhibitors across more than 200,000sqm of exhibition space. And with 1400 incredible Fuorisalone events and installations also on offer, choosing the very best things to see is critical for getting the most out of MDW.

Once again Australian talent will be represented across the vast event including Local Milan presented by Local Design an online platform for local designers by local designers, providing a unified voice, a marketplace and network for everyone to access.

In 2018 at MDW, Local Milan features work by 26 Australian designers and is the largest independent showcase of Australian design in Milan to date. Pioneering the way forward for Australian design, stylist, designer and founder of Local Design, Emma Elizabeth has curated and directed the exhibition to advance awareness and understanding of Australian design amongst a global audience.

“It’s hard to describe Australian design as it draws from so many cultures and influences,” says Emma Elizabeth. “The objective of Local Milan is to present a collective of Australian design that will heighten the global perspective of our Australian aesthetic and style, encouraging and supporting local designers to continue raising the bar.”

Milan Design Week runs 17 - 22 April, 2018.
