Film featuring research by School staff selected for film festival

A short film featuring groundbreaking research by School staff has been selected for a film festival.
"Ancient Babylonian tablet - world's first trig table" presented research findings by School members Dr Daniel Mansfield and Professor Normal Wildberger.
Their study, which prompted a wave of media attention last year, discovered the purpose of a famous 3700-year old Babylonian clay tablet. It revealed that the tablet is the world’s oldest and most accurate trigonometric table, possibly used by ancient mathematical scribes to calculate how to construct palaces and temples and build canals.

The film will be included in the community screening program for SCINEMA, which takes place during National Science Week in August. Venues around Australia will host events and the program's playlist will be streamed via Australia’s Science Channel. Last year, the estimated audience for the program was 37,000 people.
The film, which is narrated and presented by Dr Mansfield, has attained hundreds of thousands of views on YouTube.
