The Co-op Program offers this scholarship, in partnership with Global Voices Australia, to give one final year scholar an opportunity to experience foreign policy and decision making on the global scale.   As part of the scholarship experience, all delegates complete a research fellowship on a topic related to the theme of their delegation, and participate in an international program of practical sessions, workshops, policy exercises and institutional visits. Darcy will join the Global Voices National Scholarship recipient, Jananie Janarthana, as delegate to the Y20 Summit in Cordoba, Argentina in August.

Darcy’s journey has already begun, with the pre-briefing in Canberra in May.  During his time in the Nation’s capital the Y20 scholars headed to Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet (PMC) to meet with David Gruen, the G20 Sherpa, James McDonald, the G20 Sous Sherpa and Noel Campbell, Australia’s Ambassador to Argentina. As experienced G20 experts, both David and James provided invaluable insight into the nuances of the negotiation process and summit itself and really emphasised how important it is to utilise the opportunity of the Y20 summit to inform and influence leaders on issues that are important to the youth of today.

They also spent time at the Australian Treasury offices where Lisa Elliston, the Division Head of the International Policy and Engagement Division and her Directors met with the delegates to discuss the role the Treasury has in these international forums, heard from Chief Economist and guru, Chris Richardson of Deloitte Access Economics and engaged in a round table discussion about the key issues facing Australia and the world in foreign policy at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI) offices.  The 3 day pre-briefing was capped off by meetings with Allan Behm, the Senior Policy Advisor and Speech Writer to Senator Penny Wong, and a meeting withGlobal Voices Chair, Harry Jenkins AO.
