The Australian Graduate School of Management (AGSM) has introduced a new scholarship for elite athletes to study a Full-Time MBA. The AGSM Sport Leadership Excellence Scholarships will be awarded to students accepted into the 2019 Full-Time MBA program.
The Australian Graduate School of Management (AGSM) has introduced a new scholarship for elite athletes to study a Full-Time MBA. The AGSM Sport Leadership Excellence Scholarships will be awarded to students accepted into the 2019 Full-Time MBA program.
The Scholarships recognise elite athletes who have held leadership positions at a national or international level in sport. Both full and partial fee-waiver scholarships are available.
Lucinda Whitty, former Olympian and AGSM MBA 2019 Class President and recipient of a 2018 AGSM Women in Leadership Scholarship said, "you can't doubt your own achievements and experiences. The strength and mentality it takes to lead within a sporting environment builds unique characteristics and skillsets. An AGSM MBA degree can help you harness these skills by providing the tools and frameworks to make it within the business world," she said.
"When people ask about my MBA experience I liken it to high-performance sport campaign. You are constantly managing many challenges along the way. It's being able to navigate and not go off course - to maintain intent and relentlessly persist at learning."
Lucinda was an Olympic silver medallist in Sailing at the 2012 London Olympic games and was an Australian Sailing Team elite athlete for over eight years. She is a strong advocate for scholarships that promote diversity to all candidates who are looking to advance their careers and be leaders within their community.
"Being an elite athlete has made me better at asking for and taking feedback; of learning and changing and adapting; of working in teams and get the best out of my colleagues and myself which are all skills I use each day in the MBA environment."
Dr Michele Roberts, Academic Director at AGSM @ UNSW Business School, said "AGSM has a long tradition of supporting elite athletes as they transition into corporate life. Our full time MBA provides athletes with the training, development, networks and career support they need to make a successful transition into a new career.
Lucinda commented that "AGSM is the best business school in Australia. The diversity of people doing the Full-Time course was a strong reason why I choose to study MBA here."
Full and partial tuition fee waivers are available, and eligible candidates are automatically considered for this scholarship after receiving an offer of admission to AGSM Full-Time MBA program.
