Trevor McDougall announced a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union

We are proud to report that Scientia Professor Trevor McDougall has been announced a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union (AGU).

The AGU is an international non-profit scientific association with over 60,000 members from 140 countries. Its activities are focused on the organisation and dissemination of scientific information in the interdisciplinary and international field of geophysics. 

According to the AGU, its Fellowship program is an honour given to individual AGU members who have made exceptional scientific contributions and who have gained prominence in their respective fields of Earth and space sciences. Since the AGU Fellows program was established in 1962, no more than 0.1 percent of the total membership of AGU is recognised annually.

This year’s Fellows will be celebrated at an annual Honors Ceremony and Banquet in December at the 2018 AGU Fall Meeting in Washington, D.C. 

In a letter to Professor McDougall, AGU President Eric Davidson said, "We are honored to add your name to the ranks of AGU Fellows. We look forward to recognizing your scientific achievements and we thank you for being a part of AGU!"

Professor McDougall has also recently been honoured with the award of the 2018 Petersen Excellence Professorship from the Christian-Albrechts University of Kiel in northern Germany. He will spend most of September in Kiel, where he will deliver a public lecture on “The Ocean’s Role in Climate: what we know, and what we don’t know”, and he will also deliver a course of six lectures to graduate students.
