The Centre for Social Impact at UNSW Sydney Business School (CSI UNSW) has announced that Michael Traill AM has been awarded the title of Adjunct Professor.

Traill, who is a renowned advocate for social investment has served on CSI's advisory board since its inception in 2008.

Traill said that he was honoured to receive the title of Adjunct Professor from UNSW Sydney.

"This is an immense honour and privilege, and I'm humbled to be acknowledged in this way," Traill said.

"I've closely watched the evolution of CSI over the years the time is now right for me to have a more meaningful connection with the Centre. I look forward to working with Kristy and the team."

Professor Chris Styles, Dean of UNSW Business School said that the title of Adjunct Professor was awarded as a result of Traill's outstanding contribution to social leadership, his expertise and significant achievements throughout his career.

"We are very pleased to award the title of Adjunct Professor to such a distinguished leader in social change," Styles said.

"Michael has been a longstanding supporter of the work that CSI does, and we are happy to welcome him to be part of UNSW Business School in this way."

Michael previously co-founded and worked as an Executive Director of Macquarie Group's private equity arm, Macquarie Direct Investment.  He also founded Social Ventures Australia in 2002 and stepped down as CEO in 2014.

Professor Kristy Muir, CEO, CSI said Traill was the "embodiment of a social change leader," moving from the world of corporate finance to improving the state of disadvantage across Australia.

"It's no surprise that at CSI we have been huge fans of Michael and his work for many years. He is the embodiment of a social change leader," Muir said.

"We are thrilled to have him on board in this way and look forward to working together in the future."

In 2010 Michael was made a member of the Order of Australia in recognition of his services to non-profit organisations. He holds a BA (Hons) from the University of Melbourne and an MBA from Harvard University.
