The Centre for Social Research in Health (CSRH) at UNSW Sydney is pleased to announce that Carla Treloar and Alex Broom have been awarded the accolade of UNSW Scientia Professor for their dedication to research.

Professor Treloar, director of CSRH, is a world-renowned researcher in the fields of hepatitis C and injecting drug use. In 2017 Professor Treloar was awarded the University of Newcastle Alumni Medal for Professional Excellence. Her work has had policy, clinical and community impacts, giving hepatitis C patients improved access to support, care and treatment options.

Professor Broom is recognised as an international leader in the sociology of health and illness. His current research focus is on developing critical analyses of the social dynamics of cancer and palliative care and the global challenge of antimicrobial resistance across contexts and cultures. Professor Broom was named in two ARC Discovery Projects in the most recent funding round.
