Lunch held to thank Diana Combe and Frank Reid

School members gathered for lunch in the staff common room today to thank Diana Combe and Frank Reid for their many years of service. 

Diana has resigned but will continue on as an Adjunct member of staff, while Frank is retiring. 

Diana joined UNSW as an Associate Lecturer in Statistics in 2000. During her time at the university, she has been very active in the School community. She set up a mentoring scheme for casual tutors in Statistics, made major contributions to the Girls Do the Maths program, and has been an outstanding leader as Chair of the School Learning and Teaching Committee. Student evaluations of her teaching have been at leading levels. 

Frank, who was a high school teacher for many years, first joined us in 1996 as a Visiting Teaching Fellow. He again joined the School of Mathematics and Statistics in 2005 as a casual tutor, and the next year he completed a Master of Science under the supervision of Peter Blennerhassett. For many years, Frank has been taking tutorial classes across a range of first and second year courses and also lecturing MATH1011.

Of Diana and Frank, Head of School Bruce Henry said, "they both share an outstanding quality - and that is their care for students, and others more generally. They both have a very pastoral style with students... and are happy to teach students who may need greater support. They are both enthusiastic, patient, and understanding. They both have quiet, unassuming, but nevertheless confident approaches. They have both been lauded by students for their teaching."

We thank Diana and Frank for the huge contributions they have both made to our School over many years. We wish them all the very best for the future.
