The second week of the season saw the Women’s Premier team take their first win, with a definitive 54-point defeat of the Inner West Magpies at Picken Oval. That will be a big confidence boost for the team as they aim to continue their storm up the ladder. That afternoon, the Men’s Premier team also took on the Inner West Magpies at the same ground, maintaining their undefeated start to the season with a 39-point win. A special mention to Under 19s Div 1 captain Jack Rheinberger, who played his 50th game for the Bulldogs on the weekend, unfortunately coming away with an agonisingly close two-point loss to Sydney Uni.

ATHLETICS
While the UNSW Sport community was celebrating at the Blues Dinner, our track and field athletes were sweating it out at Olympic Park and coming away with some incredible results. New Blues recipient Georgia Winkcup was the big winner, coming away with not only a gold medal in the 3000m Steeplechase, but a new UniSport Nationals record as well. New Ben Lexcen scholar Susie Douglas competed in her first ever UniSport Nationals, winning a bronze in the 400m hurdles, as well as a bronze in the 1600m Sprint Medley, alongside Winkcup.

Two big wins for the UNSW Handball teams this week will give them some confidence going into the Easter break. Both teams take on their top teams on their respective ladders when the competition resumes in May.

HOCKEY
Some strong results for our hockey teams this weekend, the Women’s Metropolitan League 1 team ground out a draw to move into fourth place on the ladder. The Men’s Premier League 1 team had their first win of the season, with a 4-0 thumping of GNS to take them to sixth place on the ladder.

The UNSW Judo Club competed at NSW State Titles recently, with some impressive results across a range of divisions. A special mention to Ryan Koenig, who recently participated in a European tour as part of the national squad and did the club proud at State Titles.

Mixed results for our football teams this weekend, with the women’s team unable to get over the line against Marconi. They currently sit in ninth place on the ladder, however there is still plenty of time in the season to move up. The men’s team recorded their first win against the Balmain Tigers, which takes them into eighth place for the season so far.

WATER POLO
With three rounds to go in the competition, UNSW Wests Killer Whales (women’s) had a tight loss to UTS Balmain, who jumped into first place with that win, UNSW dropping to third. However, they sit only one point behind the top two teams and will be looking to come back hard the next time the teams meet, on 27 April at UNSW Fitness and Aquatic Centre. The UNSW Wests Magpies (men’s) cruised to victory against UTS Balmain with a solid nine-point win. They are defending their territory at the top of the ladder, with Drummoyne Devils closing the gap between first and second.
