Adam de Jong spent five years on active duty in the United States Marine Corps including several deployments in Iraq. He is one of three military personal to receive the inaugural AGSM Leadership Excellence (Military) Award.

A few years after leaving the military, he became the Chief Operating Officer and at Diamond Cyber Security in 2016, a company founded by former Australian Special Forces personnel with the aim of providing the private sector with the discipline, governance, techniques and leadership in cyber security. Adam is currently taking a sabbatical to pursue a formal business education.

He plans to use his military training and strategic knowledge to create a sustainable business and service model that would deliver long-term value to future clients and partners in the private sector.

“I was looking for a course that would provide me with the tools to further expand my existing leadership skills and enrich my knowledge and business acumen. At this stage, I plan on returning to Diamond Cyber Security equipped with the right (new) skills and continue building the company to its full potential,” said Adam.

While contemplating business schools, Adam spoke to AGSM current students and alumni who inspired to undertake his MBA at AGSM due to how equipped they felt to apply the tools and frameworks they had learnt to real-world while optimising their impact for their industry.

“The AGSM Full-Time MBA program was the most conducive program for me to achieve my personal and professional development goals while simultaneously building a new network of incredibly capable people from all walks of life.” Adam was also drawn to the AGSM for its reputation as an institution of excellence and the high calibre of its professors and Executives in Residence.

“Receiving this scholarship relieved some of the financial burden on my family and forwarded me the opportunity to step away from my role for the duration of the program and to focus exclusively on my studies.”

This scholarship coupled with the AGSM MBA experience will enable Adam to translate his unique military experiences and entrepreneurial skillset into a valuable asset that can be utilised within any business environment.

AGSM enjoys a great reputation for developing veterans into successful business leaders and entrepreneurs, and many of these graduates continue to act as mentors for future scholarship recipients.

Adam said, “I am truly honoured to have been accepted into such a prestigious program and feel proud to be part of a school that not only recognises the past contributions of the veteran community but acknowledges the value former services members bring to the table.”
