“This scholarship is the first of its kind in the Asia-Pacific region and I feel AGSM is leading the way for diversity and inclusion amongst the top business schools worldwide,” said Mark. “Being awarded this scholarship is recognition of the contribution I am making in the LBGTI community and I intend take full advantage of the opportunity so I can pass on my knowledge to the next generation of emerging LBGTI leaders.”
Working as a consultant in the Health Technology industry for over eight years, Mark mentored colleagues and used his skills and experience to make a positive impact on the Australian LGBTI community.
“I worked with an organisation known as ‘Out for Australia’ where I mentored young professionals who were either at University or are recent graduates looking to enter the workplace for the first time. I helped them adjust to balancing their professional sense of self, while embracing their identity within the LBGTI community,” he said.
Mark was actively involved with the Australian Marriage Equality campaign generating public awareness designed to educate the community, garner votes and seek support across different areas of the community. He decided to study an MBA to explore different career paths and opportunities. He was drawn to AGSM’s world-class reputation, the quality of faculty and the diversity of the cohort. After speaking with AGSM alumni and existing students, Mark decided the time was right to seek new challenges, create new opportunities and further his professional and personal growth.
“My experience so far at AGSM has been extraordinary. In a short period of time I have learned invaluable business skills, improved my public speaking, problem-solving and leadership capabilities. I have also uncovered a desire to explore an entrepreneurial mindset and I hope to launch my own start-up one day,” he said.
“I know without a doubt this will be the most transformative 16 months of my life. AGSM prepares you to be a leader of tomorrow; to encounter challenges head on and adapt to any business model that is being shaped by today’s disruptive digital technologies.”
“Being elected as Co-President of the 2020 MBA cohort is also a truly humbling experience and one that I am very excited to fulfil. As a student leader I am passionate about making a positive change within my cohort and within the Australian LBGTI community,” he said.
