Our eighth annual Advanced Mathematics Day was held in the Scientia's Tyree Room last Friday 4 October.

After a welcome and overview from Professor Bruce Henry, first and second year students were given advice on choosing their major during presentations by Daniel Chan, David Warton, Josef Dick and former Honours student Alan Stoneham. MathSoc and DataSoc representatives Eugenia and Christopher spoke briefly about their societies' recent events and activities, and encouraged the students to get involved.

Following morning tea, our special Honours info session commenced with the presentation of the School's 2020 Advanced Mathematics Honours Scholarship to Jiayi Li and Conrad Martin. We award two of these scholarships per year, one each to a female and male pre-Honours student who have achieved outstanding results in the preceding trimester.

Honours Director Shane Keating delivered an overview of the Honours year, which was followed by a panel discussion with current and former Honours students Harry Crimmins, Alan Stoneham and Ni Tao fielding questions about their Honours year experiences.

Three-minute flash Honours project talks were presented by staff members Jakub Stoklosa, Clara Grazian, Arnaud Brothier, Anita Liebenau, Guoyin Li and Shane Keating.

Following lunch, Honours, Masters and PhD students attended presentations by our PhD graduate Kylie-Anne Richards, School Advisory Board member and SAS Customer Success Manager Annelies Tjetjep, and School members Clara Grazian, Anita Liebenau and Gery Geenens.

Once the day was wrapped up, students and staff enjoyed drinks in the Tyree Room.
