Milan Pahor
We are thrilled to announce that Milan Pahor has won the 2019 KPMG Inspiring Teacher Award in a First Year Undergraduate Program.

The award, now in its third year, invites all UNSW students enrolled in a first year undergraduate program to vote to determine the most inspiring teacher across all of first year teaching at UNSW. Almost 300 teachers were nominated by 2,000 students in this year's round.

Milan is a lecturer with 35 years' teaching experience. He won the Faculty of Science Teaching Excellence Award in 2012, and his passion for teaching inspired The Milan Pahor Appreciation Society group on Facebook which boasts over 2,200 members.

School of Mathematics and Statistics staff members were very successful in this year's round, taking out four of the top six nominations. Professor Chris Tisdell and Dr Daniel Mansfield were featured among the Top 5 teachers nominated, while Dr Thomas Britz came in sixth.

Our staff members have won this award two out of the three times it has been on offer. Dr Mansfield was the winner of the inaugural KPMG Inspiring Teacher Award in 2017.

The KPMG Inspiring Teacher Award is an industry sponsored partnership between the UNSW Office of Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) and KPMG. The award celebrates teachers who create rich learning environments and provide a consistently excellent educational experience for students.

Milan PahorIn addition to recognising and celebrating teaching excellence, the award elevates the voice of first year undergraduate students, giving them the opportunity to vote for the teacher that has inspired them the most.

Award recipients receive a cash prize and certificate, to be presented at an awards lunch hosted by KPMG with senior representatives from KPMG and UNSW, leading industry representatives from the recipient’s discipline field and representation from the students who made the nomination.

KPMG will also determine with the award recipient whether access to the firm’s innovation experts and facilities will add value to the educational experience they are creating.

A very big congratulations to Milan for this wonderful achievement and recognition!
