Transforming the UNSW Village Green to a world-class environment
A new era arrives at UNSW in 2020 with the redevelopment of the Village Green into a brand-new world-class sport, active recreation and leisure environment with multi-sport facilities and plenty of space to exercise, socialise and relax.

The vision for the Village Green is to create a vibrant and connected space that provides sport, social, recreational and wellness activities where students, staff and the community can come together.
For students and Arc, the redevelopment of the Village Green will offer an enhanced experience with more opportunities for both social and competitive student sport and active recreation than ever before. The new space will contribute to enabling the UNSW Sport Strategy to deliver the most inclusive university sport and active recreation experience in Australia through exceptional programs and amenities.
The new Village Green will feature:
Competition-standard multi-purpose pitch
Multi-purpose courts for netball, basketball and futsal
500m walking and running track
Outdoor gym equipment
Retail and events facilities
An important aspect of this project is the upgrade of the below ground stormwater infiltration tank. The Village Green is an essential part of the campus stormwater and infiltration system. Aligned with UNSW’s Environmental Sustainability Plan 2019-2021, a new tank will be installed to capture all the campus stormwater in the University’s catchment area underground and contribute to recharging the Botany Aquifer.
Estate Management is commencing works on the site from December 2019.
Alternative sporting locations on campus for 2020 will be announced soon.
It is expected the transformed Village Green will re-open early 2021.
