Year 10 students join us for work experience

Last Thursday we hosted eight Year 10 high school students as part of the annual UNSW Science Work Experience Program.

All nine Schools in the Faculty participated in this week-long program, welcoming the students into their respective Schools to engage in activities and demonstrations. 

Our one-day Mathematics and Statistics program was coordinated by Dr Daniel Mansfield and Susannah Waters. The day kicked off with a Combinatorial maths exercise, Peter's Party Planning, which was run by PhD student Michael Denes. Diana Combe and Yudhi Bunjamin provided support on the day and in the lead up.

The next activity was a fun demonstration of minimal surface area using bubbles, run by Dr Mansfield and PhD student Fadi Antown. This activity was introduced to our outreach in 2016 by then-Postdoc Ana Zumalacarregui.

Students were then challenged to a competition and presentation on the Monty Hall Problem, run by Dr Boris Beranger. 

After lunch, students returned for an afternoon of maths craft.

The high school students joined us from Broughton Anglican College, Toongabbie Christian College, St John Bosco College, Homebush Boys High School, Catherine McAuley Westmead, Georges River College, Catherine McAuley Westmead and Patrician Brothers Blacktown.
