Professor Mark Bradford interviewed by broadcaster John Laws - discussing the “Conspiracy theories” about why the Twin Towers collapsed.

It is over 18 years since the ‘Twin Towers’ of the World Trade Centre in New York were destroyed during the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, after being struck by two hijacked commercial airliners.

A total of 2,763 people were killed in the collapses, including 2,192 civilians, 343 firefighters, and 71 law enforcement officers as well as all the passengers and crew on the airplanes, including 147 civilians and the 10 hijackers.

The rapidity of the collapse of the two great towers shocked the world. The North Tower was hit at 8:46 am and collapsed at 10:28 am. The South Tower was hit later at 9:02 am. and collapsed earlier at 9:59 am.   

Since fire had never before caused a skyscraper to collapse and aircraft impacts had been considered in their design, the scale and rapidity of the buildings’ destruction initially came also as a surprise to many in the engineering community.

Not surprisingly, many people came to hold ‘conspiracy theories’ about why the Towers had collapsed so rapidly.

Broadcaster John Laws recently spoke to CIES Professor Mark Bradford, a steel and structural engineering expert, for his views.
