The Australians’ Drug Use: Adapting to Pandemic Threats (ADAPT) Study is exploring the short and long-term impacts of COVID-19 on Australians who use illicit drugs.

Led by researchers from the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC) at UNSW Sydney, ADAPT is one of the first studies globally to talk with people who regularly use illicit drugs about their experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The study comprises an online cross-sectional survey of people who were regularly using illicit drugs prior to the emergence of COVID-19, embedded within a longitudinal cohort who will complete six additional waves of surveys.

The ADAPT Study will ensure drug-related issues during COVID-19 are better understood, accurately represented, and used to inform drug treatment and harm reduction in Australia.
