Chris TisdellProfessor Chris Tisdell is one of the drivers of a national initiative which aims to enhance the capacity of educators to teach mathematics and numeracy in Australian schools.

The Federal Government has allocated $9.5m for Education Services Australia, in partnership with the University of Adelaide, to deliver a series of maths Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) for foundation to Year 10 maths teachers. An online mathematics and numeracy resources hub for teachers, parents and students will also be developed.

In announcing the project, Education Minister Dan Tehan said, "We have a responsibility to give Australian students a strong foundation in areas of expected employment growth and demand including science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The development of the mathematics MOOCs component is a great example of universities engaging with industry".

Professor Tisdell is a member of a panel of individuals with an interest and expertise in mathematics education who will participate in Discovery Phase workshops, and provide direction and input into scoping documents across all aspects of the project.

"I'm excited to play a role in this national project and help to transform mathematics education", said Professor Tisdell.

The resources are slated to roll out from the end of the year.
