UNSW Canberra Cyber Director Nigel Phair is available for comment on the 2020 Cyber Security Strategy, announced by the Federal Government today as part of its commitment to protecting Australians from cyber threats.
Mr Phair said the University looks forward to working with the Government to achieve its outcomes in cyber security utilising its multidisciplinary research capability.
“There is always a continued threat to Australia to be the subject of cyber security attacks and the sophistication of these attacks is increasing.
“I am encouraged to see the Government make a commitment to tackling these issues head on and providing a path forward to ensure we are as prepared as we can be,” he said.
Through fundamental and applied research, training, and education, UNSW Canberra Cyber is working to combat cyber threats to our nation, organisations and individuals by understanding the intersection of human, business, and technical factors.
“There are many aspects of this strategy that the University can play a key role in, from developing technology and capability through to providing quality education and training to the next generation of employees in the industry.
“We are well-placed and ready to be part of the solution to this ongoing and important issue,” Mr Phair said.
