NEW! Graduate Diploma in Physical Oceanography

From 2021, we introduce the Graduate Diploma in Physical Oceanography, a unique and flexible postgraduate coursework qualification in this exciting and growing discipline. 

Our new program caters to graduates in Science, Engineering and cognate areas seeking advanced training in the theory and understanding of physical processes in the ocean. 

Rapid growth in the marine industries has increased demand for specialist skills from employers in this sector. Students will learn to apply quantitative, computational, and technical skills focused on the ocean and marine environment to current industry issues, and to communicate these with confidence.

The degree offers advanced disciplinary courses designed to reflect current practices in the field of Physical Oceanography, and aims to build student capacity to investigate, analyse, and synthesise complex information.

Graduates will develop skills ranging from simulation to data acquisition, and advanced statistical and computational analysis. They will also acquire transferrable skills prioritised by employers including problem solving, communication, teamwork, and critical thinking abilities. 

The program is designed to be available in both face-to-face format (including blended), and distance mode (online with some face-to-face learning). 

UNSW has expanded its research program in Physical Oceanography in recent years and the university is now ranked 20th in the world and second in Australia in the field of Oceanography. The UNSW School of Mathematics and Statistics is ranked number one in the country for mathematics*.
