Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award - Professor Salil Kanhere

Prof. Salil Kanhere has been awarded the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Germany. This prestigious research award is awarded to scientists and scholars from abroad, internationally renowned in their field, who completed their doctorates less than 18 years ago and who in future are expected to continue producing cutting-edge achievements which will have a seminal influence on their discipline beyond their immediate field of work.

Winners of the Bessel Award receive €45,000 and are invited to spend a period of up to one year collaborating on a long-term research project with specialist colleagues at a research institution in Germany.

Salil will visit Prof. Klaus Wehrle, Chair of Communication and Distributed Systems at RWTH Aachen to work on a research project that explores the use of blockchain technology for applications in industrial cyber-physical systems and evolving mechanisms for the future Internet. The team will particularly focus on secure and privacy-aware usage of blockchains to realise accountable and dependable manufacturing and secure and trustworthy future networking, e.g., for in-network processing, even when stakeholders are mutually distrusting.
