WOMEN'S CRICKET

After some great wins last week for the first and second grade teams, they relaxed with well-earned byes on the weekend, leaving third grade to fly the Universities flag alone. Unfortunately they weren't flying it for long, as rain put an end to the match after eight overs. Campbelltown-Camden won the toss and batted first and Universities were cruising along - Georgia Lomis-Futeron picked up 2/13 from her four overs, while Sarah Brine took 1/10.

MEN'S CRICKET

After rain prevented any play on day one of first grade's match against Penrith, they made it out on to the field for day two. UNSW won the toss and sent Penrith in to bat. The Penrith openers got off to a great start and they had accumulated 161 runs before UNSW was able to break through. Tom Scoble eventually took the first wicket and they began to fall more regularly after that first one - Penrith eventually declared at 7/204 after 51 overs. Scoble (4/41) was the pick of the bowlers, while Declan White (3/40) was also a key contributor. Unfortunately UNSW star Matt Gilkes was out for a golden duck when UNSW's innings began. Tom Scoble (67) and Jack Attenborough (36) steadied the ship before Suffan Hassan made an important 35. UNSW finished on 9/204 with a draw declared.

GRIDIRON

While the Raiders women enjoyed a well-deserved week off after a big semi-final win last weekend before their grand final this weekend, the men's team played in a preliminary final, hoping to reach their second grand final in as many years. Unfortunately it wasn't to be this year. The Raiders fought hard, but eventually went down to Sydney Uni. The men are now preparing to support the women as they push for back-to-back premierships when they take on the Northern Sydney Rebels on Saturday at 11am at Shark Park in Woolooware.
