Meet Maria Markoulli, an Associate Professor with an interest in understanding how the ocular surface is affected by disease, e.g. dry eye disease, diabetes, migraines, chemotherapy induced neuropathy and chronic kidney disease. The eye is the window to the body!

Maria’s team (see below) includes honours and postgraduate students, as well as a postdoctoral research fellow, from UNSW SOVS and the Prince of Wales Clinical School. Her dry eye work in conducted in collaboration with the UNSW Dry Eye Clinic, and her hospital research is conducted in collaboration with the Prince of Wales Clinical School, including Professor Arun Krishnan, Dr Ann Poynten, Professor David Goldstein and Dr Katherine Spira.

Maria also runs the UNSW Dry Eye Clinic, is the UNSW SOVS postgraduate coordinator, and coordinates two preclinical undergraduate courses. She is also deputy editor for Clinical and Experimental Optometry  and an ambassador for the Tear Film and Ocular Surface society.
