Gary Froyland elected a Fellow of the Society for Industrial & Applied Maths

We are delighted to announce that Gary Froyland has been elected a Fellow of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM). 

The SIAM Fellows Program recognises and honours SIAM members who have have made outstanding contributions to the discipline and have been recognised by their peers for their work. Fellows are elected to the Society for life. 

Professor Froyland is part of a distinguished group of 28 academics who were chosen for the prestigious SIAM Fellows Program in 2021. Other Fellows hail from institutions in the US, Canada, the UK, and Hong Kong. 

Selected for his immense contributions to dynamical systems and discrete optimisation, and the advancement of transfer operator methods, Professor Froyland is the only researcher from an Australian institution among the 2021 contingent. 

He is in very good company: Professor Ian Sloan also holds a SIAM Fellowship. Professor Sloan was elected to the program in 2009.

It's been an impressive past year for Professor Froyland. He was an invited speaker for the SIAM Conference on Mathematics of Planet Earth last August, presenting a talk "The Dynamic Ocean". He also received an Australian Academy of Science Fellowship last May for his leading research in the fields of dynamical systems, ergodic theory and discrete optimisation.
