UNSW is committed to providing a flexible work environment, which includes supporting parents and carers to balance their family and working lives.

We know that during the current lockdown many in our UNSW community are needing to home school, support those sitting the HSC and other key exams, and care for ageing, unwell or other members of their family with support needs, while they continue to work from home.

Our support program tailored specifically for families was announced recently: UNSW launches new family wellbeing support.

We are now happy to announce that through the SAGE Athena SWAN program, UNSW has become an Employer Member of Parents At Work, joining a network of organisations committed to creating family-friendly workplaces.

As part of the Bronze Award Action Plan, UNSW’s SAGE Athena SWAN program committed to introducing a UNSW Parents at Work Program capable of supporting staff as they transition to and from parenting leave.

Parents At Work provides a range of benefits including advice on best-practice support for parents and families in the workplace, and a range of free webinars, podcasts and other support materials for parents on topics such as motivation and mental wellbeing.

Together with UNSW’s new Parents and Families Champions, Mei Lee and Keith Ooi, Parents At Work membership will help build a holistic program of support for parents and families at UNSW, supporting staff to balance work and other responsibilities while progressing their careers.

UNSW proudly supports staff members of all genders, sexuality, culture, religion and disability who are parents or who have other family caring responsibilities, and offers a range of information and resources on flexible working arrangements, carers leave and career support funds on the EDI website.
