Businesses, people affected by the crisis, and emergency support workers, can ask the UNSW Business School Tax Clinic for guidance.
The UNSW Tax Clinic is ready to help families, communities and businesses in need of tax advice and support as a result of the flood crisis.
The Clinic is open to anyone in NSW who is in need of tax advice and has been significantly impacted by the floods, including emergency support workers such as SES whose own tax affairs have been disrupted. The clinic assists with communicating with the ATO and helps clients understand their obligations and options available.
Acting Director of the UNSW Tax Clinic Professor Michael Walpole, UNSW School of Accounting, Auditing and Tax, said the free service is available to those who need it most at this difficult time.
“The UNSW Tax Clinic exists in order to support the financially disadvantaged with tax problems when they cannot afford independent professional advice," he said. “We recognise that people in flood affected areas may need our support.”
With phone appointments available, the UNSW Tax Clinic provides free, independent and confidential tax advice and support.
Under the supervision of registered tax agents, UNSW Business School students attend the Clinic and assist clients with correspondence and demands from the Australian Tax Office (ATO). The team negotiate with the ATO, help clients understand their obligations and outline some of the options available.
Anyone in need of tax advice and support in NSW as a result of the flood crisis can get in touch.
