The UNSW School of Civil & Environmental Engineering (CVEN) is delighted to welcome new industry partner - Beca, one of Asia Pacific’s largest independent advisory, design and engineering consultancies to our Industry Partner Program.

This is great news for our students, as Beca have more than 3,300 employees in 21 offices across the Asia Pacific region and have delivered projects in more than 70 countries.

The company is busy across an enormous range of projects including advisory,
buildings, defence and national security, design, environment, industrial, power and energy, sustainable development, transport and infrastructure, and water.

Beca have decades of experience. In fact they have just moved into their second century, but as they point out, ‘While our experience has been 100 years in the making, it is the fresh talent we're nurturing, the innovative thinking we're developing and the connections that we're forging that get us most excited for the future.’

Sean Suen, Undergraduate Civil Engineer at Beca says “This program presents a great opportunity for Beca to not only give back to the young engineering community, but also to learn from some of the best up and coming engineers.

“Having been on either side of the industry recently, I know how important it is to have solid resources on hand to help students find their feet in this unknown environment.

“I’m incredibly grateful to be part of helping Beca and UNSW come together for this partnership and hope to see it flourish for many years to come!”

Dr Kurt Douglas, Associate Head – Engagement says “It is exciting to see a people orientated company with similar values, regarding a focus on community and the environment, join us.

“We really appreciate companies that come on board to help support the transition of our students, and indeed future students, into the engineering industry. “

Meanwhile Simon Berry, Manager – Transport NSW at Beca said “I am really looking forward to the partnership with UNSW. It gives us the opportunity to help students starting their careers to grow, by sharing advice and working alongside industry leaders.

“UNSW has consistently produced the best civil engineers in the country, and I can’t wait to see these students demonstrating their talents at Beca!”

About the CVEN Industry Partners Program.

The School of Civil & Environmental Engineering (CVEN) is internationally ranked as the premier School of its kind in Australia, (AWRU/ QS/ THE) and as No. 12 in the world (AWRU/QS).

The support of industry partners helps the School grow the profile of the profession through outreach programs that connect with students in NSW primary and high schools.

This includes our very successful Primary School Maths Prize which promotes the importance of maths for an exciting engineering career, and Year 10 Engineering Work Experience Week which offers young people from around the state the chance to experience a wide range of civil, environmental and geospatial engineering projects, sites and activities.

Program funds are also used to run events that link our undergraduates with Industry Partners, such as careers markets, elite student industry breakfasts, career information events, and other student focused events.
