In response to the Attorney-General's Department’s Administrative Review Reform Issues Paper, the Kaldor Centre has recommended key principles for designing a new body to replace the Administrative Appeals Tribunal.

Drawing on analysis from the Kaldor Centre Data Lab, Deputy Director Daniel Ghezelbash has made a detailed submission in response to the Attorney-General.

The submission urges the Department and its Expert Advisory Group to ensure that data collection and analysis are embedded into the new body’s operations, structure and composition.

Also, the government should harmonise procedures so that migration and refugee decisions follow the same code as other decisions. Finally, it should ensure appointments to the new body are merit-based and transparent.
