The UNSW Ageing Futures Institute hosted a webinar on 11 June 2020 to discuss the human rights of older adults in light of the COVID-19 Pandemic and other crises. Watch the webinar in full below:

Background

“Why should it take a crisis to talk about the Human Rights of Older People?”

Whilst the human rights of older people is an important social and political topic, recent crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the Australian bushfires have further highlighted existing ageism and human rights issues in older communities.

The UNSW Ageing Futures Institute will bring multiple perspectives to this topic and shed light on the:

  • Current situation and the insights on the human rights of older people
  • Challenges, priorities and opportunities highlighted by The Royal Commission into Aged Care, COVID-19, the Australian Bushfires and other crises
  • Next steps to consider and relevant future work the Institute can drive to address these challenges and opportunities

Speakers include: Professor Andrew Byrnes, Dr Annie Herro and Professor John Piggott AO.

Moderated by Professor Kaarin Anstey (Institute Director).
