In February, Research Associate Alicia Dunning and Walgett Aboriginal Medical Service Dietitian Devanshi Gala presented the work of the Food & Water for Life program at the 2024 Food Governance Conference at The University of Sydney.

Their presentation, ‘Food and Water for Life: A community-led approach to supporting access to healthy food and drinking water in remote Aboriginal communities’, was part of the Indigenous food systems for health and self-determination stream, and was well received.

As well as presenting, Alicia and Devanshi attended a number of other seminars throughout the conference on topics such as native grains, international work in addressing food insecurity, and the importance of research in informing and supporting policy.

The work in this area in Walgett was also mentioned in Professor Tom Calma’s keynote address!
