On Tuesday 10 June 2025, the Health Systems Research Early-Mid Career Researcher (EMCR) Committee hosted the HSR Methods Mixer at UNSW.
Themed "Bridging Expertise for Impact", the event brought together EMCRs, senior academics, and health system experts to explore how diverse research methodologies can drive meaningful change in health systems.
The workshop featured sessions on process evaluation, economic evaluation, and the use of big data—each underscoring the importance of designing research with implementation and impact in mind. From understanding the context in which interventions succeed, to evaluating cost-effectiveness and leveraging linked data for policy, the sessions offered practical insights and sparked valuable cross-disciplinary conversations.
In her closing remarks, Dr Laura Downey, representing the Health Services Research Executive Committee, emphasised the importance of collaboration and inclusivity in research. She reflected:
Not only does it make your research more fun… it makes it more educational… you're also creating better research, better data, and… better opportunity for translation and impact towards better health.
Attendees were encouraged to explore seed funding opportunities facilitated by the committee, aimed at supporting collaborative, cross-disciplinary research teams. The HSR Methods Mixer was a testament to the power of methodological innovation and collaboration in advancing health systems research, leaving a strong foundation for future partnerships.
