UNSW Law & Justice is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of two members of the faculty named as finalists in the prestigious 2025 Lawyers Weekly Women in Law Awards.

Professor Mimi Zou, Head of School, Private and Commercial Law, is shortlisted in two categories: Academic/Researcher of the Year and the Flos Greig Trailblazer Award. Her dual nominations highlight her pioneering work in legal innovation and her commitment to advancing equity and justice through technology and research.

“It’s an incredible honour to be recognised as a finalist for both the Academic/Researcher of the Year and the Flos Greig Trailblazer Award,” said Professor Zou. “These nominations reflect the collective efforts of so many inspiring collaborators and communities I’ve had the privilege to work with. I’m deeply committed to advancing legal innovation and equity, and I’m grateful to be part of an organisation and profession that are evolving in such meaningful ways.”

Dean of UNSW Law & Justice, Professor Andrew Lynch, praised Professor Zou’s contributions:

“Mimi’s recognition as a finalist in both categories reflects her extraordinary leadership, innovation and global impact in the field of law and technology. Her work not only advances academic excellence but also drives meaningful change in how we think about justice in the digital age. We are proud to have her as a leader in our faculty.”

Also representing UNSW Law & Justice is final year law student Bouchra Chehimy, a finalist for Law Student of the Year. Bouchra’s nomination reflects her dedication to legal advocacy, academic excellence and community engagement, including her role as Treasurer of Diverse Women in Law.

“To be named a finalist for the Law Student of the Year in the 2025 Lawyers Weekly Women in Law Awards is a true privilege,” said Bouchra. “It is an honour that speaks to the importance of representation and commitment to the law. It inspires me to continue striving for excellence in my legal career.”

Professor Lynch also acknowledged Bouchra’s achievement:

“Bouchra is an exceptional student and a passionate advocate for justice. Her work with Diverse Women in Law and her broader contributions to the legal community show real leadership and heart. It’s fantastic to see her recognised as a finalist—she’s already making a meaningful impact and we’re proud to support her journey.”

Now in its 14th year, the Women in Law Awards celebrate the achievements of female professionals across the legal sector, including executives, barristers, academics, pro bono lawyers, and students. Winners will be announced on Thursday, 27 November 2025 at a gala event in Melbourne.
