A team of UNSW Law & Justice students has taken out top honours at the 2025 International Business Mediation Competition (IBMC) in Amsterdam, continuing the faculty’s strong track record in global dispute resolution contests.

The team – comprising of students Tania Jashnany, Isabel Gunning, Sarvam Khanna and Oscar Iredale – represented UNSW in the prestigious competition, which drew around 20 teams from universities across the world. After 5 rigorous mediation rounds, the team received the winning scores and secured victory for UNSW.

The team was coached by Dr Rosemary Howell and current UNSW Law & Justice student Rhea Baweja.

Participation in IBMC was facilitated by UNSW Law Society (LawSoc), whose role in coordinating internal and external competitions continues to be a vital part of the student experience. LawSoc’s training programs serve as a pipeline into faculty-supported competitions, helping students build the skills and confidence needed to excel on international platforms.

“This result reflects the extraordinary commitment of our students and the strength of UNSW Law & Justice’s conflict resolution culture,” said Dr Howell. “It also demonstrates the impact of LawSoc’s leadership in nurturing talent and creating pathways for success.”
